Europe attaches great importance to food safety, and it is ready to pay a high price for environment-friendly food products. Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin, Head the European Union (EU) Delegation to Armenia, said this at the launch of the EU-funded Green Agriculture Initiative (EU-GAIA) project in the country today.

According to her, this pilot program that launched in Armenia will operate in three provinces for now, and  this will allow evaluating the results more objectively.

She noted that within the framework of EU-GAIA, the EU seeks to increase the number of small and medium-sized enterprises, which can accelerate economic growth as well as solve the employment issue, given that more than 36% of Armenia's population is engaged in agriculture.

In his turn, Deputy Minister of Economy of Armenia Arman Khojoyan noted that EU-GAIA is in line with the government's strategy to increase economic competitiveness and ensure high incomes in agriculture.
