Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies at the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, Turkologist Ruben Safrastyan today told reporters that the Armenian community of Syria played a significant role in the Syrian parliament’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide and stressed the role of Syrian-Armenian PM Nora Arissian, adding that, of course, this decision was adopted based on geopolitical calculations, taking into consideration Turkey’s operations in Syria.
On February 13, the Parliament of Syria voted in favor of the resolution recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide perpetrated in the Ottoman Empire.
