YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes: Armenia's economic activity index has decreased.

The Statistical Committee of Armenia has registered sad indicators in the sphere of Armenia's economy. According to official data, The RA's economic activity index decreased by 1.7 percent in January-April this year, compared to the same period last year.

The construction sector also saw a decline of 21.9 percent over the same period last year. In fact, the reason was the coronavirus that took the world by storm, as a result of which a state of emergency was declared in Armenia, and any kind of construction was banned in those days.

Trade decreased by 8.6 percent. This is also a consequence of the state of emergency, as businesses in the trade sector did not work in March-April; there has been activity only in terms of food consumption. Instead, the volume of industrial production increased by 4.2 percent.

Zhoghovurd daily has learned from official data that we also have a serious decline in the sphere of foreign trade; it was 10.4 percent. In particular, exports fell by 8.1 percent and imports—by 11.5 percent; this is also associated with the coronavirus all through the world.
