I don’t agree with the claim that the government has failed in the fight against the coronavirus and that the anti-crisis measures are not targeted. This is what Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan told reporters today.

“Firstly, what is impressive is the speed of implementation and intensity of the social and economic support programs that the government implemented in comparison with what was done in other countries and when and how it was done. Secondly, if the opposition is talking about failure, there have to be arguments and justifications,” he said.

When journalists reminded Grigoryan that he had become a government official upon the proposal of leader of Prosperous Armenia Party Gagik Tsarukyan and that now the latter says the government has to be changed 100%, Grigoryan said the following: “Declaring that the government has failed is not enough to discuss the issue in general. There have to be justifications and clarifications for discourse, but a statement can’t be a topic of discourse.”

When told that the opposition states the absence of investments and the high numbers of people infected with the coronavirus, the Deputy Prime Minister said it is necessary to understand that the whole world is in a recession and that talks about investments need to be in the general context of the recession.
