Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Avet Adonts today held phone talks with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Ales Chmelar.

As reported the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Adonts told his Czech counterpart about the situation created as a result of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces’ operations along the length of the northeastern sector of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, as well as Azerbaijan’s ongoing aggression against the peaceful population and civil infrastructures of Armenia.

Expressing Armenia’s position on the events, Adonts drew his interlocutor’s attention to Azerbajian’s unprecedented threat, that is, the country’s statement that it is ready to bomb the Metsamor Armenian Nuclear Power Plant. Adonts also condemned Turkey’s anti-Armenian policy and its unilateral support to Azerbaijan.

In his turn, Ales Chmelar stated that such threats are unacceptable and stressed that such issues need to be solved exclusively through negotiations. He also emphasized the importance of refraining from further escalation, returning to constructive negotiations and solving the issue exclusively through peaceful negotiations within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship.

Talking about EU-Armenia relations, the interlocutors discussed the ratification of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement and other issues on the Armenia-EU agenda. They also presented the coronavirus situation in both countries and the actions taken by the governments to overcome the pandemic and improve the socio-economic situation.
