The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to observe international standards in regard to persons who have been captured during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, TASS reported.

The Court stated that "it has also received numerous requests lodged by the Governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan or by relatives of the captives.” The Court has invited the respondent Government to provide information on whether the named individuals have been captured. “If so, under which conditions they are currently held, including any medical examinations or treatment they have undergone,” as stated in the Court’s press release. “The Court further notes the existence of international mechanisms for the protection of persons captured during armed conflict and urges both Armenia and Azerbaijan to participate in the relevant procedures,” the press release reads.
