According to the information of Armtimes, a draft of the amendments to the Constitution is circulating within the majority My Step faction of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, and if it is passed, the NA can dissolve itself.

The nature of this amendment is to make an addition to Article 92 of the Constitution, according to which snap parliamentary elections can be held also when the NA is dissolved through a decision adopted by at least three-fifths of the MPs.

It is proposed to also specify that snap parliamentary elections are conducted in Armenia not earlier than forty and not later than fifty-five days after the dissolution of the NA. Under the current regulation these elections are held not earlier than thirty and not later than forty-five days.

According to the current Constitution, early parliamentary elections are called only when the NA does not elect—by a majority vote of the total number of MPs—a new PM twice, and within seven days after the resignation of the preceding PM.

Opposition factions do not agree not to nominate a new PM candidate in case of incumbent Nikol Pashinyan's resignation, and this theoretically means that the National Assembly can elect another PM should Pashinyan step down.
