Authorities in Chiba Prefecture in eastern Japan will kill about 250,000 chickens at a local farm where an outbreak of bird flu was detected, Kyodo reported.

The detected focus of infection in the city of Sosa became the eighth in the prefecture since almost 1.5 years.

To prevent the spread of infection, the Chiba authorities banned the export of chickens and eggs outside the zone with a radius of 10 km around the poultry farm, as well as their movement within a radius of 3 km around the outbreak.
