Benik Galstyan, ex-mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan’s attorney, told Armenian News-NEWS.am that the investigative body has only rejected all of the motions after bringing a charge against Margaryan on Feb. 14.

“There were a few motions to specify and clarify the charge and help my client and I become familiar with the documents referred to in the decision on bringing a charge,” the attorney stated, adding that he had also submitted a complaint to the prosecutor against the decision on the pre-trial measure selected for Margaryan, but it was rejected. Currently, signature to not leave is selected as a pre-trial measure.

The attorney said he would appeal all the rejected motions to the prosecutor and, if possible, also to the court. According to him, the investigator has declared a search against Margaryan in order to know his location and the day of his return to Armenia. Galstyan added that Margaryan hasn’t been questioned since there is no testimony against him and that Margaryan doesn’t accept the charge brought against him.

Under the criminal case, charges have been brought against Head of the State Property Management Department under the Government of Armenia Arman Sahakyan, former Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan and two heads of divisions of Yerevan Municipality for misuse of official powers. Margaryan is charged with misuse of official powers.
