The European Union has called on the parties to the conflict in East Jerusalem to take urgent steps to de-escalate current tensions, DW reported.

Violence and incitement are unacceptable, those responsible on all sides must be held accountable, the European External Action Service said in a statement Saturday, following reports of dozens of injuries in clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police.

Acts of incitement around the Temple Mount / Haram esh-Sharif must be avoided and the status quo must be respected. Political, religious and public leaders from all sides must show restraint and responsibility and make every effort to calm this unstable situation, the document says.
