The opposition Bright Armenia Party urges the Government of the Republic of Armenia to immediately address the UN Security Council on the ground of aggression on the part of Azerbaijan and the threat to international peace and security in violation of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia.

“Taking into consideration the fact that the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan have not left the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia by breaching the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia and using arms since May 12, 2021;

Taking into consideration the fact that de facto Azerbaijan has violated and continues to violate the fundamental Principles (jus cogens) enshrined in Article 2 of the UN Charter;

Taking into consideration the fact that Azerbaijan not only continues to keep a part of the territory of the Republic of Armenia seized, but is also inciting an armed conflict, as a result of which servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia were either killed or injured today, on May 25, 2021;

Based on Article 34 of the UN Charter, according to which the UN Security Council may investigate any dispute, or any situation which might lead to international friction or give rise to a dispute, in order to determine whether the continuance of the dispute or situation is likely to endanger the maintenance of international peace and security;

Based on part 1 of Article 35 of the UN Charter, according to which Any Member of the United Nations may bring any dispute, or any situation of the nature referred to in Article 34, to the attention of the Security Council or of the General Assembly;

Based on Chapter VII of the UN Charter, particularly Article 39, according to which The Security Council shall determine the existence of any threat to the peace, breach of the peace, or act of aggression and shall make recommendations, or decide what measures shall be taken in accordance with Articles 41 and 42, to maintain or restore international peace and security;

We urge the Government of the Republic of Armenia, namely the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to immediately address the UN Security Council on the ground of aggression on the part of Azerbaijan and the threat to international peace and security in violation of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia.
