As I take a look back, I ask myself what should I have done and what I did wrong. This is what Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said during an online press conference today.

“I had planned to deliver a message on the occasion of November 9th [day marking the end of the 44-day war in Nagorno-Karabakh] and provide several details about the circumstances of the war and the process of negotiations. I started writing and wrote half of the story which was nearly 80 pages. Later, we discussed and decided that speaking out about this wouldn’t be in Armenia’s and Artsakh’s interests. Now, as I look back, if we had known that things would turn out this way, perhaps it would be right to tell the people what we would have to renounce.

On September 27, 2020, I declared in parliament that Armenia can stop the war, if we do that. Taking a look back, it is safe to say that perhaps it would be right for me to say I am going to stop the war for a specific price and will save the lives of thousands of young Armenians. The whole problem is that you don’t know how much will be conceded,” he said.

According to him, this isn’t even about calculation, but the fact that people have refused to lead the struggle for 30 years. “We Armenians have been deprived of so many things to achieve our goal, but perhaps it was right to tell the people that the deprivations were in vain, I don’t know. Today we also have to make a choice. They are constantly striking us and telling us to give the Zangezur corridor. What Zangezur corridor? They say they will open the corridor by force. How? They tell us to conform and give the corridor, but how can we tell the people to let them have the corridor?”
