A ban on the sale of disposable bags came into force as of January, said Minister of Environment of Armenia Hakob Simidyan during the government sitting on Wednesday.

“The law was adopted back in the spring of 2020, but it comes into force so late for manufacturers to adapt to the situation. We know that plastic products are very harmful to the environment and we believe that this is a very important limitation.

The local self-government bodies should also be actively involved and ensure the application of the law, ”he said.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that "these packages need to be thrown out of our lives," since "people use them for a maximum of one day, after which they end up in nature and cause significant damage."
