In recent times, I cannot compare the activities of the institution of the president in any way with the strengthening of our statehood and any process going on around it, and I cannot say that the institution of the president has carried out any activities. Seyran Ohanyan, leader of the opposition "Armenia" Faction in the National Assembly (NA) and former defense minister of Armenia, told this to reporters in the NA Monday, referring to President Armen Sarkissian submitting his resignation Sunday evening.

"I am sorry that Armen Sarkissian submitted his resignation from abroad. I do not know what the reason was. He does not seem to have any health problems, or if he does, he should explain it.

Our Constitution today allows the head of state to fulfill his duties. If he has a matter of proving regarding the future of the Armenian people, on the contrary, he should be here, continue his activities, and prove and proceed what his goals are.

I think that the events that have taken place in Armenia in recent years are also the result of the inaction and tacit consent of the President of Armenia," Ohanyan stated.

He expressed a conviction that Armen Sarkissian, with his abilities and knowledge, could study the Constitution of Armenia and fulfill his obligations as President.

"This means that either he had arrangement with the current authorities, or there may have been apparent pressure, or he simply did not fulfill his duties, he failed," Seyran Ohanyan stressed.

Also, he expressed the opinion that there may be internal political and geopolitical conditions for the resignation of the President.

"There may be new documents, which he avoids," Ohanyan added.
