U.S. President Joe Biden called Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy, whom he called a "stupid son of a bitch," and explained that his words were not "anything personal," Fox News reported, citing the journalist himself.

Doocy said on Fox late Monday evening that Biden called his phone shortly after their exchange to apologize for his remark. "Within about an hour of that exchange, he called my cell phone and he said, 'It's nothing personal, pal,'" Doocy said.

"He cleared the air, and I appreciated it. We had a nice call," he added. Doocy said he told Biden he plans to continue asking him unexpected questions, and that the President responded positively to the comment.

The incident occurred before a meeting of the U.S. Administration's Competition Council on efforts to lower prices. Doocy asked the U.S. president if inflation was a political liability in the midterm congressional elections due later this year. At that point, reporters began being escorted out of the room.

Biden called the Fox News reporter a "stupid son of a bitch," probably assuming his microphone was off. The other day, as CNN reported, the American leader reacted in a similar way to another Fox News reporter, Jacqui Heinrich, who asked why he was waiting for Russian President Vladimir Putin to make the first move on Ukraine. Then Biden said, seemingly to himself, "What a stupid question."
