Europe has found itself in an extremely dangerous situation due to tensions around Ukraine, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said.

Nevertheless, "there is no signs that war is already a done deal," she said on German public broadcaster ARD's program Tagesthemen.

The talks with Russia, she said, are about how we can ensure security together. It is also necessary to talk about what steps can be taken in the field of disarmament and about greater transparency on both sides, Baerbock said. “Military conflicts are the worst thing for all of us in the heart of Europe,” the minister added.

The West is ready to continue the negotiation process at any time and there are attempts through all channels to "keep Russia at the negotiating table" but if the conflict can not be avoided, Moscow will face tough economic sanctions, the Foreign Minister assured.

Annalena Baerbock said that an attack on Ukraine would have "incredibly large consequences and consequences for Russia."

On Monday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz starts a visit to Kyiv, where he will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky before holding talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Moscow tomorrow.
