The peacekeeping forces are investigating the circumstances of the 24 March incident, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

His remarks came at a joint press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Friday, responding to a question about the incursion of Azerbaijani forces into Nagorno-Karabakh.

"We announced from the very beginning of the incident that our military, on the ground our peacekeeping contingent is engaged in clarifying all the circumstances. We talked about that today. The circumstances are not completely clear to us there. I would not like to jump ahead and make any definitive judgments. We are convinced that our Armenian friends fully trust the Russian peacekeeping contingent and that the occasional calls to "hold accountable" this contingent and to carry out some kind of internal investigation do not reflect the real attitude of the Armenian people and the Armenian leadership towards the great role that the Russian peacekeeping contingent plays in the maintenance of stability in this region. Yes, small incidents do happen. And in this particular incident, let me note it, we are dealing with it through our military. There are things that need to be clarified," Lavrov said.
