For unknown reasons, the governor of Istanbul did not allow the annual mourning event dedicated to the Armenian Genocide victims to be held this year.

The respective refusal statement from the Governorship of Istanbul noted that they did not find it convenient to hold this event this year, but they did not give any reason, reported the Agos Armenian newspaper.

An event dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide has been held every year on April 24 at 19:15 at Istanbul's Taksim Square—and ever since 2010 until the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
