Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban accused the European Commission of irresponsible behavior because of which the EU found itself in a difficult situation in connection with the sixth package of sanctions against Russia.

He warned that the prospects for EU agreement to ban Russian oil exports do not look bright.

Speaking upon his arrival at an EU summit on Monday, Orban said he needed "solutions" to ensure Hungary's energy security before drastic sanctions against Russia could be agreed. According to him, there is no clear compromise.

The European Union's latest proposal for sanctions against Russia, which would include a ban on oil imports by sea, would be a good solution, but there is no compromise on this issue yet, Orban said.

He noted that Hungary also needs guarantees that it will be able to buy oil by sea if Russian oil supplies through the Druzhba pipeline stop.
