Moscow does not believe Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who said that Kiev is not going to attack Russian territories in case it receives US multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) with an extended range, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Wednesday when asked by TASS.

"No," the Kremlin spokesman said when asked if the Kremlin trusted Zelenskyy's words. "In order to trust, one must have experience of cases when the promises made were kept. Unfortunately, there is no such experience at all," Peskov said.

Zelenskyy assured the Ukrainian military does not intend to attack the territory of Russia with multiple rocket launchers, which will receive from the United States. Ukraine will use these weapons "exclusively for defense".

US President Joe Biden said that the US would send Ukraine long-range missile systems as part of a $700 million arms package. The news comes after conflicting White House reports after several news outlets reported that the administration was preparing to provide Ukraine with American-made multiple launch rocket systems that can launch missiles up to 300 kilometers away.

Biden told reporters Monday that the U.S. is not going to send missile systems to Ukraine that can strike Russia because there are concerns about the war escalating into a larger conflict.

But in a guest essay for The New York Times, the president mentioned sending missile systems to Ukraine, specifically saying, “We have moved quickly to send Ukraine a significant amount of weaponry and ammunition so it can fight on the battlefield and be in the strongest possible position at the negotiating table.”
