The Russian side strongly protested to the EU ambassador Markus Ederer because of the sanctions against cargo transit to Kaliningrad, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"On 21 June, the head of the EU mission in Moscow, Markus Ederer, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry," it said.

“The representative of the European Union was strongly protested in connection with the spread of unilateral anti-Russian restrictions on cargo transit between the Kaliningrad region and the rest of the territory of Russia. We point out that such actions, which violate relevant legal and political obligations of the European Union and lead to an escalation of tensions, are inadmissible,” the message on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry says.
