Additional fence will be built along the Evros River on the border between Turkey and Greece. Such a decision was made on Tuesday by the Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defense (KYSEA) of Greece.

The press service of the head of the Greek government informs that the aforesaid decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

"At the meeting, among other issues, the issue of increased pressure due to illegal entry into our country from both our land and sea borders was discussed. It was decided to gradually expand the fence along the whole length of the Evros, giving priority to the trouble spots decided by the relevant ministries and the National Defense General Staff," the statement reads, in particular.

A tender will be held for the construction of this new fence.

“It was also decided to upgrade and strengthen [border] surveillance systems,” the aforementioned press service added.
