Turkey is in favor of abolishing the veto system in the UN Security Council, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said after the participation of the Turkish delegation at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.

"More and more politicians declare that the world is more than five permanent members of the UN Security Council," the diplomat said.

A mechanism for decision-making by majority vote could replace the veto right, Cavusoglu noted.

"The main thing in this matter is to ensure maximum coverage and fairness," he noted and recalled that Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan's call for UN reform is supported by more and more heads of state around the world.
