Some U.S. and European clothing retailers have asked Bangladeshi suppliers to suspend production or delay deliveries, causing clothing to pile up in the country's warehouses, the Financial Times reports.

According to manufacturers and government officials in Bangladesh, the world's largest clothing-importing country after China, some brands have slowed orders or asked for up to three months of delayed shipments.

According to industry officials, orders and clothing production have slowed due to the imposition of sanctions against Russia and the impact of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine on inflation and interest rates around the world, the publication said. As a result of the delays in orders, factories that purchased fabric to make clothing are now in serious crisis.

Many garment manufacturers in Bangladesh are also suffering due to power outages that occur as a result of higher prices of imported gas in the country, the article specifies.
