The death toll from the February 6 earthquake in southeastern Turkey exceeded 8.5 thousand people, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the town of Kahramanmaras, which was hit by the earthquake.

"Unfortunately, the death toll continues to rise, reaching 8,574 casualties so far, with 49,133 people injured," he said.
