The number of cases and deaths from COVID-19 decreased by 89% and 62%, respectively, worldwide over the past 28 days compared to the previous 28 days, World Health Organization (WHO) reported, RIA Novosti reported.

Worldwide in the past 28 days (January 23 to February 19) there have been about 5.3 million new cases and more than 48,000 deaths, down 89% and 62% respectively from the previous 28 days," according to the latest weekly epidemiological summary of the WHO.

As of February 22, there were more than 757 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 and more than 6.8 million deaths worldwide. WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said earlier that the tools at the disposal of governments should make it possible to end the COVID-19 pandemic this year.
