Why doesn't the parliamentary opposition directly submit the draft law "Criminalizing recognition of Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)] as a part of Azerbaijan"? The answer is very simple: the next second of the adoption of such a draft, Azerbaijan will launch a large-scale military aggression against Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, with the resulting consequences. Gevorg Papoyan, an MP of the ruling faction of the National Assembly of Armenia, wrote this on Facebook.

"Therefore, the parliamentary opposition is attempting to shift the accountability for a new war from itself to the people.

"And the opposition needs a new war for a very simple reason: only then they can come to power, at the cost of heavy human and territorial losses of Armenia; they simply have no other option.

"Therefore, Hayakve has only one political consequence: it will untie Azerbaijan's hands, so that there will be another military aggression by Azerbaijan, and the one who signs under that paper, by his action, indirectly gives Azerbaijan an opportunity to declare war on Armenia and Artsakh."

"P.S. I hope that the signatories of the draft and their sons will be the first to go to the frontline and defend the homeland during the next Azerbaijani aggression, God forbid, and they will not avoid, under various pretexts, the one-month [military] assemblies," Papoyan added.

To note, the Hayakve initiative group makes a proposal to amend Armenia’s law in order to provide a severe punishment for refusing the self-determination of Nagorno-Karabakh and belittling the significance of the Armenian Genocide.
