In order to protect the rights and ensure the security of the people of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), Stepanakert should start conducting negotiations with Baku. Sargis Khandanyan, Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and member of the ruling majority Civil Contract Faction of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, said this during a talk with reporters in the NA Friday, answering the question of how Yerevan reacts to the rallies in Artsakh and the deepening humanitarian crisis there

According to the MP, the Armenian side raises this matter in meetings with international partners, and Armenia's partners realize that the time has come for targeted actions.

"Nevertheless, our position is unchanged; in particular, the issue that refers to the protection of the rights of Artsakh Armenians and ensuring their security. However, a dialogue between Stepanakert and Baku is necessary. The issue should be discussed from that angle so that it receives an international response," said the Armenian politician.

In his opinion, the provisions of the tripartite statement of November 9, 2020 should be strictly adhered to by everyone, and Azerbaijan should immediately implement the decision of the UN International Court of Justice.

"The task of the Armenian side is to voice these matters on various platforms; for example, at the UN Security Council," said the Armenian lawmaker.

Khandanyan expressed a belief that Armenia and Artsakh should reach decisions which will be followed by specific steps and actions. Such can be, for example, a broad international presence in Artsakh. In his view, this can guarantee the protection of the rights and the ensuring of security of the people of Artsakh.
