In early November, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visited for the first time some of the Armenians arrested by the Azerbaijani authorities after the September 19 military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh. Zara Amatuni, Communication and Prevention Program Manager of the ICRC Armenia office, told Armenian News-NEWS.am about this.

Amatuni added that the visits to the other arrested Armenians had taken place in October.

She said that these visits are regular.

"Using this, we also give these people the opportunity to keep in touch with their families," Zara Amatuni added.

In late September, Azerbaijani border guards arrested Ruben Vardanyan, the former Minister of State of Nagorno-Karabakh and a philanthropist; Levon Mnatsakanyan, the former commander of the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army; Davit Manukyan, the former deputy commander of the Defense Army; David Babayan, the former Foreign Minister; Davit Ishkhanyan, the speaker of the National Assembly; as well as Nagorno-Karabakh former presidents Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, and Arayik Harutyunyan. The latter, by the way, faces life imprisonment in Azerbaijani capital Baku.
