European Council President Charles Michel said this in an interview with the RFE/RL Armenian Service addressing the question of whether the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan can be signed as a result of direct dialogue between the two parties, or under the auspices of the European Union and the United States

The fact that the joint statement of Armenia and Azerbaijan became possible a few days ago is partly thanks to our help. We encourage them, we are also working to organize a meeting that can take place in Brussels. But the important thing, in our opinion, is more the result than the place of the meeting because peace, security, and prosperity are paramount for the people living in Armenia, Azerbaijan and for us, said the President of the European Council.
