Armenia has not joined the EU European Council decision of December 4 on restrictive measures. This was told to Armenian News-NEWS.am by Ani Badalyan, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia.

"Based on foreign policy priorities and within the framework of partnership with the EU, Armenia observes and often joins EU statements, showing its support and solidarity on the matters addressed in them. [But] Armenia has not joined the specific decision of December 4 (2023/2721) of the EU Council on restrictive measures, as it can be seen also from the message of the EU Council of December 17," said the spokesperson of the Armenian MFA.

As reported earlier, Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, issued a statement that specifically stated that eleven non-EU countries, including Armenia and Azerbaijan, had joined the EU Council's shared foreign and security policy decision—i.e. the European Magnitsky list—which imposes sanctions on officials, persons, and organizations responsible for massive human rights abuses. Later, however, this statement was edited, and references to Armenia and Azerbaijan were removed from its text.
