It is the same pattern as during the secret or unpublished negotiations between Armenian PM Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in 2018-2020 when Azerbaijan announces the meeting, then the Armenian side is forced to accept that fact. Opposition MP Artur Khachatryan on Monday told this to reporters in the National Assembly of Armenia—and referring to the recent meeting between the leaders of the two countries in Munich, Germany.

"It led to the failure of negotiations within the framework of the [OSCE] Minsk Group, and it led to war [in 2020]. What will the repetition of that same behavior bring? It is very difficult to say anything today.

We see that there is a change in the negotiation format—if of course there are [peace] negotiations. The Armenian side refuses to make use of the Russian proposal. Azerbaijan, having received what it wanted in the West, refuses to go to Western platforms. The US declares that they encourage Armenian-Azerbaijani contacts. More simply, it means that they wash their hands of that process, they say: ‘go, do whatever you want, we are neither mediators nor guarantors.’ As for Germany, Germany and Turkey collaborate closely, and I don't know what it can give to Armenia," Khachatryan said.

According to the Armenian opposition lawmaker, unlike Pashinyan, Aliyev is able to get what he needs on all platforms, while Pashinyan loses everywhere.

"Regardless of where the negotiating table is set, who the mediator is, if the head of the country is unable to protect the interests of the country, you can put the negotiating table on the moon. It leaves no room for doubt that Pashinyan is working against this country," Artur Khachatryan said.
