As of June 11, a Schengen visa will cost 90 euros for adults and 45 euros for children aged 6-12, as per the European Commission decision issued in the official journal of the European Union.

According to this document, applicants from countries that have not collaborated in the readmission of their citizens illegally staying in the EU will pay a Schengen visa customs fee of 135 or 180 euros, depending on the decision of the Council.

The decision to increase the Schengen visa fees was taken on March 14, but it will come into force on the 12th day after its publicizing in the aforesaid EU journal. Before that, the ministries of foreign affairs of Slovenia and Finland had informed the whole world about this increase in the Schengen visa fees.

Currently, the fee for a Schengen visa is 80 euros for adults and 40 for children. The European Commission has explained this increase, by 12.5 percent, with inflation.

The European Commission assesses the need to revise the visa fee on the basis of "objective standards," including the level of inflation and average salaries of civil servants in the EU.
