YEREVAN. – Armenian MPs have discussed with their French colleagues prospects for adopting a new bill on genocide denial, Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) MP Naira Zohrabyan said in the parliament on Friday.

“We claim that the bill does not contradict the French constitution on freedom of speech. Genocide is a crime against humanity, while its denial - a vivid propaganda of it,” Zohrabyan said.

“The Council’s decision was predictable for us, taking into account that it was headed by Jean-Louis Debré, who failed the adoption of a suchlike bill in 2006 when heading the Parliament. I have already talked to French MPs François Rochebloine, René Rouquet and Valerie Boyer, and the new bill with some changes will be submitted to the Parliament’s consideration.”
