YEREVAN. – Past daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes: RA Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan had noted recently in the NA [National Assembly] that "the military actions of April [2016] hostilities ended with certain territorial losses, but no politico-military change was made."

Days after Tonoyan's statement, another diametrically opposed viewpoint was voiced in Stepanakert by Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)] President Arayik Haroutyunyan, saying: "As for whether they [Azerbaijanis] have captured positions, they have captured. As for whether the positions were strategic, there is no notion of 'non-strategic position.'"

According to Past newspaper’s information, both political and expert circles consider it rather strange that the statements of the key figures of the two countries on a specific security-related event contradict each other. According to many, the statement made yesterday in Stepanakert obviously contradicts the point of view of the defense minister [of Armenia].
