YEREVAN.- Armenia’s human rights defender Karen Andreasyan is ready to provide legal assistance both to the common people and representatives of campaign headquarters.

He said the start of election campaign coincides with the opening of six Ombudsman’s offices in Armenia’s regions.

OSCE and the European Union signed an implementation agreement which envisages establishing six regional offices of the latter, maintaining the operation of a hotline for registration of alleged human rights violations and establishing rapid reaction groups to ensure prompt mobile response to alleged violations during the elections and pre-election campaign.

Asked whether he intends to seek a meeting with the president, Karen Andreasyan said his expectations of free elections are concerning head of police, head of central electoral commission, prosecutor general who are independent officials.

“Thus, I will  not seek a meeting with the president,” he told journalists on Friday.

The election campaign will be held till May 5 - the day prior to elections when campaigning is banned. The parliamentary elections will be held from 8 am to 8 pm on May 6, 2012.
