16:54, 02.07.2012 Region: Armenia, Karabakh, Azerbaijan Theme: Politics, Analytics

YEREVAN.-  Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan considers that by destabilizing the situation along the line of contact, Azerbaijan is trying to hamper the peace process, involve Armenia into armed scuffles, provoke to response measures in an attempt to shift responsibility on the Armenian side.

“Azerbaijan’s hopes to achieve unilateral concessions are ridiculous,” he said in an interview with the Armenian Soldier newspaper.

Speaking about the cases of ceasefire violation, Ohanyan noted that the arms race creates a situation when sometimes use of force becomes uncontrollable. He considers the recent aggression by Azerbaijan was definitely managed by the leadership.

“We are not responding to single shots,” he emphasized adding that the number of losses of Azerbaijan exceeds those of the Armenian side.

The Minister said there is always a threat of war. The Armenian side does not exclude possibility of war and is ready to accept the challenge. According to him, the best option is balance of forces which deprives Azerbaijan of hope for success.
