PARIS. – French President François Hollande replied to Arman Mkhitaryan, who had sent a question in connection with Hollande’s pledge to examine a new bill on criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide.

In his letter of reply, Hollande confirmed that the new law proposal is currently being studied, Nouvelles d’Arménie monthly of France reports.

“François Hollande intends to carry out his commitment in connection with the bill that criminalizes the denial of the Armenian Genocide; [the commitment] which he had assumed during the [French presidential] election campaign, and as he recently had reminded to the Armenian community of France.

As is know, the Constitutional Council had found that it [that is, the bill] runs counter to the Constitution. Therefore it is necessary to find a solution which will conform to the debt of recollection and to the Republic’s laws, so it would not be criticized by the aforesaid institution. The Government has undertaken this work,” the French President’s representative wrote in particular.
