YEREVAN.- Potential cargo capacity for the Iran-Armenia railway has been already calculated, Director General of the South Caucasus Railway Victor Rebets said.

Investigation was conducted by Russia-based Institute of Transport Economics and Transport Policy Studies.

Last November Joseph Marie Oughourlian, CEO of Amber Capital Investment Management, visited Armenia to meet with Transport Minister Gagik Beglaryan. During the meeting, Oughourlian announced the imminent start of feasibility study. However, Rebets noted they held no meetings with Amber Capital.

“We believe this is a very important direction. Two routs from Armenia and Azerbaijan, are not competing with each other. Although the destination of two routes is the same — the Persian Gulf —the Armenian route mat serve in the direction of the Black Sea ports and adjacent southern regions of Russia,” Rebets said.
