YEREVAN. – Armenia is not conducting a systematic state policy toward the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

Journalist Diran Lokmagozyan, a friend of Hrant Dink—the founder and chief editor of Agos Armenian weekly of Istanbul, who was killed on January 19, 2007 in front of the weekly’s office—stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Saturday.

In his words, there is discordance among the separate actions that are taken in Armenia to settle the Armenian issue.

“There is no one common center that would coordinate all work in this direction. What is more, even the senior [Armenian] officials don’t have one shared view on how to solve the problem,” the journalist noted.

In this context, Lokmagozyan highlighted that official Ankara, on the other hand, demonstrates a high level of organizational skills in its campaign against the genocide recognition.

In turn, Khachatur Marozyan, Head of the International Association of Lawyers and Psychologists, reflected on the progress that is achieved with respect to the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

But he noted that, against the background of the rapid radical changes in the international political arena, economic and political interests supersede ethics and justice. Consequently, as per the lawyer, official Yerevan should not just urge other countries to recognize the Armenian genocide, but rather transfer this matter on to the legal dimension and appeal to the International Criminal Court.
