State Department is following the reports of Azerbaijani journalist’s deportation from Turkey and arrest in Azerbaijan closely, U.S. Embassy in Armenia told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

"We are troubled by Rauf Mirkadirov's sudden arrest upon arrival in Baku," says the statement issued by State Department.

For additional text, the Embassy referred to the statement made by the U.S. Embassy in Baku.

As reported earlier,  Embassy in Baku said they are worried over assumptions that Mirkadirov was arrested either for criticism against Azerbaijani government or his participation in people-to-people contacts within Karabakh peace process.

Prominent Azerbaijani journalist was arrested on the charges of espionage on April 19. He is accused of working with Armenia's special services. Prosecutor's Office claims he had met with the representatives of Armenian intelligence and carried out their instructions.
