The family of the Georgian motorcyclist, who had died in a road accident in Kobuleti, Georgia, has filed a complaint against Armenian citizen Samvel Kharatyan.

As a result, Kharatyan was permitted to return to Armenia for several days solely on late Tuesday evening, to attend the funeral of his son Kochar, 13, who likewise had died in the aforesaid accident.

Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned that Kharatyan was allowed to leave Georgia for a few days only after the assurance by Armenia’s consul, ambassador, and MPs. Even in this case, however, Kharatyan was detained on the Georgia-Armenia border for two hours before finally being permitted to cross the border into Armenia.

Arriving in Armenia’s Vanadzor city where the Kharatyan family lives, Samvel Kharatyan told his relatives that even though a complaint was filed against him in Georgia, it was the killed Georgian motorcyclist who had exceeded the speed limit by traveling at a speed of 280 km/h.

Armenian News-NEWS.am also has learned that the motorcyclist was a well-known “biker,” a champion, and he was testing his new motorcycle on the day of the accident.

As reported earlier, the Rescue Service of Armenia had received information, on August 16 at 2:35pm, from the Department of Emergency Situations of Georgia. Accordingly, there was a road accident, on the same day at 12:59pm, in the Georgian summer resort city of Kobuleti, as a motorcycle and a Hyundai had crashed.

As a result, Armenian citizen Kochar Kharatyan, 13, had died on the spot, whereas Aleksandr, 8, and Ani, 12, Kharatyan were transferred to the Kobuleti medical center. On the next day, Ani Kharatyan was transferred to Armenia’s capital city Yerevan.
