YEREVAN. – The opposition Heritage Party of Armenia is ready for substantive discussions of the Constitutional reforms, but solely if the parliamentary majority accepts the party’s respective terms.

Heritage’s National Assembly Faction Head Ruben Hakobyan announced the aforementioned at Tuesday’s debates on these reforms.

In Hakobyan’s words, Heritage demands the adoption of eleven provisions in the Electoral Code and the passing of the Law on Opposition, pursuant to which the protesting forces will be provided with some levers of oversight.

In addition, Heritage’s parliamentary faction head noted that nationwide elections shall be held in Spring 2016; that is, immediately after the adoption of the amendments.

He also stated that the Heritage Party is deliberately avoiding the debates on the content of the amendments, since it is convinced that the existing problems in the country could have been solved even under the present-day Constitution, but the amendments are indispensable for diverting attention from the country’s political crisis and for the reproduction of power.
