YEREVAN. – Presidents of Armenia and Greece agreed to intensify economic cooperation, the leaders said during a briefing in Yerevan on Tuesday.

President Sargsyan underscored importance of the high level visits, noting they prove countries' intentions to continue and develop relations based on historic friendship. During the talks, presidents discussed bilateral issues, development of cooperation.

The Armenian leader highlighted successful cooperation between the defense ministries of two states. Thanks to this cooperation, Armenian servicemen get education and undergo trainings in the educational institutions of Greece. It is no mere coincidence that the joint work of Armenian and Greek peacekeepers had been praised highly, Serzh Sargsyan said.

At the same time, President said that trade and economic relations should be promoted, and the Armenian-Greek business forum, that is opening in Yerevan on Tuesday, will be a good platform to fulfill this goal. In this context, President Sargsyan noted work of the inter-governmental commission that will hold a regular meeting in the near future.

During the state visit of the President of Greece Karolos Papoulias, the sides signed two documents to be added to over 40 documents signed by the states.

Armenia attaches importance to signing new agreements with Greece, especially taking into account the fact that the latter is a member of EU and NATO, President added.

In conclusion, Serzh Sargsyan underlined the commitment of official Yerevan to develop relations with the EU, while expressing hope for assistance from friendly Greece.
