Charges will be pressed either on Wednesday or Thursday against Manvel Vardanyan, 44, who has been detained for his involvement in Monday’s tragic road crash in Armenia’s Shirak Region, Shirak Prosecutor Raffi Aslanyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He noted that the suspect’s three-day detention period expires on Thursday. As per Aslanyan, before bringing charges, however, several investigative actions—specifically, questioning the injured—shall be taken. Once they are completed, they will press charges against Vardanyan and petition to the court with a motion to set a two-month detention as his restraining order.

Incidentally, the suspect still has no attorney.

A tragic road accident occurred on Armenia’s Gyumri-Yerevan highway on Monday evening, as a passenger van and a truck collided. As a result, the van exploded, seven passengers died on the spot, and another seven were hospitalized. The Police regional department of investigation has launched a criminal investigation, and the truck driver, Manvel Vardanyan, is detained.
