Truck driver Manvel Vardanyan, who is the defendant in the case into the traffic accident that killed seven people in Armenia’s Gyumri city, has been sentenced to eight years in prison.

The court issued its verdict on Tuesday.

The prosecution, however, had asked for a nine-year in prison term for Vardanyan.

On November 10, 2014, a company truck driven by Manvel Vardanyan, 45, had collided with a public transport van. As a result, the passenger vehicle was destroyed by fire, seven people had died, and eight others were hospitalized.
