The two-day summit of the EU Eastern Partnership kicked off in Latvia’s capital Riga on Thursday.

The further steps of cooperation of the Eastern Partnership countries with the EU will be determined within the framework of the summit. The latter will be presided by European Council President Donald Tusk. The EU will also be represented by European Commission Chairman Jean-Claude Juncker, Federica Mogherini,  High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and other European commissioners.  

The summit will touch on the question of providing mandate to the European Commission for commencing new talks with Armenia on a new document after the country’s inclusion in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).  During the summit, the leaders of the EU and Eastern Partnership representatives will discuss the primary implementation of Association Agreements with three countries – Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova. The state of cooperation with Azerbaijan and Belarus will also be discussed.
