YEREVAN. - Armenian Parliament Speaker Galust Sahakyan made a statement, proposing the “No to Plunder” initiative activists to change the platform of struggle.

As mentioned in the statement, it’s already 10 days thousands of young men in the centre of the capital are holding a protest against the decision on electricity tariff hike. Protests were also held in other populated areas of the republic. Despite the difficulties in management, the “No to Plunder” group rallies were more peaceful and exemplary.

Welcoming the young generation, Sahakyan said that the struggle of the civil society for its rights is an effective mechanism for keeping the authorities under control. According to him, solution to problems can only be reached through dialogue between the society and state institutions.

“Each case of possible use of violence with regard to the protestors and journalists in the morning of June 23 must be thoroughly investigated and thоSe found responsible must be published,” the Speaker said.

According to him, the President’s statement on June 27 actually suspended the tariff rise, shifting the burden from the population. He also said that the blocking of central Baghramyan Avenue of the city cannot be the only means of struggle.

With this regard, Sahakyan called on the “No to Plunder” initiative to observe the law, exclude any developments aimed at the creation of uncontrollable and unpredictable situation, shift the struggle to a more rational platform of dialogue and look for solutions to the social and economic problems of the country by joint efforts, thereby proving the viability and credibility of the motto “We are the owners of our country.”
