Some letters were erased from the sign of Atatürk Park in the İzmir Province of Turkey, thus offending the memory of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Republic of Turkey.

KEMAL ATATÜRK PARKI (Kemal Atatürk Park) was written at the park entrance, but an unidentified person, or persons, had erased KE and PARKI at night and solely left MAL ATATÜRK, reported Milliyet daily of Turkey; that is, what was written on the sign came to mean “Atatürk the animal.”

Even though the Turkish word “mal” generally means “property” and “goods,” it is also used to generalize cattle.
