YEREVAN. – The opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), during the talk with President Serzh Sargsyan, presented its outlook on and concerns regarding several provisions in the new draft Constitution.

PAP National Assembly (NA) Faction member Mikayel Melkumyan, who likewise participated in Wednesday’s meeting with the President, told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“Answers were given to numerous questions,” said Melkumyan. “We are satisfied with this meeting.”

The PAP MP noted, however, that although their view on the proposed constitutional reform is close to being positive, they will announce their respective final stance after the meetings of the party political board and NA faction.

“Nonetheless, we reaffirm that we will not join the ‘no [to constitutional reform]’ movement,” concluded Mikayel Melkumyan.

President Serzh Sargsyan on Wednesday started—and with the PAP—the series of his talks with Armenia’s political forces, and regarding the proposed constitutional reform in the country.

The new draft Constitution of Armenia has been forwarded to the NA. The respective parliamentary debates are expected to get underway during its first four-day fall session. And as per the NA speaker, the constitutional referendum should be conducted in late fall.
